First Czech expert receives prestigious Harvey W. Wiley Award

Prague, Sept 21 (CTK) – Jana Hajslova, expert in foodstuffs chemical safety, is the first Czech to win the Harvey W. Wiley Award for a significant contribution to the development of official analytical methods, the University of the Chemistry and Technology’s (VSCHT) spokesman, Michal Janovsky, told CTK yesterday.
Hajslova, 64, who works at the VSCHT in Prague, received the award at an official ceremony in Dallas, USA, this week, during the 130th annual meeting of the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) International.
The AOAC International, associating scientists dealing with analytical methods, has awarded the prize since 1957. It bears the name of a man who helped draft the legislation regulating the quality of foodstuffs.
Hajslova is the head of the Department of Food Analysis and Nutrition at the VSCHT and she also leads the accredited Metrological and Testing Laboratory. She participates in a number od international research projects and is a member of some international committees, such as the HORIZON 2020 EU advisory body for European research.
Apart from the Harvey W. Wiley Award, Hajslova has been given a number of other prizes. Last year, she got the Frantisek Behounek award for the promotion of Czech science and a good name of the Czech Republic in the European Research Area (ERA).
