Prague, Nov 21 (CTK) – The innovated Czech-made ReTWis radar that is capable of detecting persons behind a barrier scored a great success at the Milipol 2015 international trade fair in Paris focusing on police equipment, daily Pravo writes Saturday.
The radar, made by the Retia company seated in Pardubice, east Bohemia, was originally meant for humanitarian purposes, mainly the search for people under the debris following disastrous earthquakes, the paper writes.
Now that the security forces in Paris and other cities are searching for and sieging the caches of terrorists, the radar acquires a new meaning as a device that may help a lot in this respect.
ReTWis is a light and portable mini-radar designed to detect live persons behind walls or other non-metallic barriers.
“Compared with its predecessor, the new variant of the radar is smaller, lighter and with an extended radius of 40 metres,” Retia´s trade director Petr Tichy is quoted as saying.
ReTWis is useful for the police and military intervention units whom it enables to comprehensively map and unveil hidden dangers in the space they are going to enter, Pravo writes.
“The system enables to significantly specify details of the planned action and reduce the risk of fatalities or injuries not only among the interveners but also among the criminal offenders and the hostages they keep,” said Retia´s spokesman Adam Cirtek.
Rescue bodies, on their part, can use the radar in tackling the aftermath of natural disasters and collapses of buildings where it helps them localise victims under the debris.
Easily transferrable, the system may also be appreciated by the foreign police who can use it to establish mobile check points and detect illegal immigrants inside lorries, Pravo writes.
