Vatican City, Oct 26 (CTK) – Peter Pollak, Slovak government commissioner for Romany communities, who heads a delegation of about 100 Romany believers from Slovakia to the ongoing International Romany Pilgrimage, in which also Czechs take part, addressed Pope Francis in Romany yesterday.
The Pope received about 5000 Romany believers within the pilgrimage.
About ten Czech Romanies also left for the event, Vojtech Elias, from the Czech Bishops’ Conference, has told CTK.
The Vatican said beforehand the goal of the event is to again tell the Romanies that the church is open to those living on the margin of society.
“The meeting with the Holy Father is an encouragement for the whole Romany community. The influence of churches and religious communities is big in the Romanies settlements. Where registered churches and religious communities are active, miracles are produced in the lives of people because the sincere interest of churches in Romanies living in settlements changes them for the better,” server Romea.cz quoted Pollak as saying.
