Prague, Nov 26 (CTK) – The Czech Republic and Slovakia are ready to help finance the measures to secure the EU outer border in connection with the migrant crisis and terrorism threats, Finance Minister Andrej Babis told reporters after a meeting with his Slovak counterpart Peter Kazimir yesterday.
Both ministers supported the possible establishment of a European border guard and a European intelligence agency.
“We realise the serious character of the security situation and we have agreed on the urgent need to take measures to secure the border… A European border guard must be formed and a European intelligence agency established to exchange information about potential terrorist threats. We both are ready to fund these measures,” Babis (ANO) said.
He added that Europe should not release money for border protection to individual countries, but it should centralise the system.
The payments for particular steps to prevent the activities of people smugglers should be agreed on with Turkey, while the refugee quotas should be forgotten since this is no way of solving the migrant crisis, Babis said.
Kazimir said Slovakia was prepared to send its units to Frontex and participate in other operations to guard the EU border.
Frontex coordinates the cooperation between the EU member states in the outer border control.
Kazimir is yet to meet Jiri Rusnok, a member of the Banking Council, and President Milos Zeman at the end of his two-day visit yesterday.
On Wednesday, Kazimir met Chamber of Deputies chairman Jan Hamacek (Social Democrats, CSSD) and gave a lecture at the University of Economics (VSE) in Prague in the afternoon.
He said the Czech Republic would probably adopt the euro single currency in the future, but it should not speed it up over the current unclear situation in the euro zone. Slovakia has used the euro since 2009.
