Prague, March 5 (CTK) – Supporters of Czech President Milos Zeman met at Prague Castle, the presidential seat, late this afternoon to mark the third anniversary of his inauguration.
The event featured a concert by the Music of the Prague Guard and the Police of the Czech Republic and refreshments were also offered.
Invitations were sent to some 900 guests. Those who arrived at Prague Castle included former members of Zeman’s government (1998-2002) Miroslav Gregr, Eduard Zeman, Jan Fencl and Zdenek Jicinsky.
The younger generation was represented by former foreign minister Jan Kohout, trade union leader Josef Stredula and Hynek Kmonicek, head of the Presidential Office foreign department.
Those present were also film director Juraj Jakubisko and his wife.
Zeman has staged a celebration of his inauguration for a third time this year. This time, he markedly raised the number of the invited.
No Zeman’s enemies arrived at Prague Castle. Only a few activists calling for the liberation of Ukrainian military pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, prosecuted in Russia for the alleged killing of two Russian journalists who has resumed a hunger strike, gathered outside the castle gates.
They were distributing leaflets. They said they will stay outside Prague Castle until March 9.
Like in the previous years, the Presidential Office would not release the budget of the event. Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said the organisers are trying to be maximally economical.
