Brussels, Dec 6 (CTK correspondent) – The invitation to the White House U.S. president-elect Donald Trump extended to President Milos Zeman yesterday is an excellent piece of news, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek has said and added it is a great opportunity for developing bilateral relations.
This should make it possible to continue developing the intensive and good relations between the United States and the Czech Republic after a new U.S. Administration comes to power.
“This is a good piece of news for the Czech Republic. It is an excellent piece of news because the United States is a key partner and ally,” Zaoralek said.
Trump invited Zeman during their phone call yesterday. The journey may take place at the end of next April.
Zaoralek said the exact date is being negotiated.
Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said Trump accepted an invitation to visit Prague.
“I am glad that the president-elect invited Czech president to the White House,” Zaoralek said in Brussels where he is attending a meting of NATO foreign ministers.
The meeting is an opportunity for the ministers to part with their outgoing U.S. colleague John Kerry.
Still before the U.S. presidential election, Zeman said he would vote for Trump if he were a U.S. citizen.
At a press conference following Trump’s victory, Zeman expressed great joy at the result and cordially congratulated Trump.
In mid-November, Zeman spoke by phone with Ivana Trump, former wife of the president-elect, who comes from the Czech Republic.
She expressed the wish to be an ambassador to the Czech Republic, according to the U.S. press.
Zeman thanked her for her courage and said the United States cannot send a better ambassador to Prague.
Zeman has visited the United States in his presidential post three times. Twice, he attended a session of the U.N. General Assembly, but he met no representative of the U.S. Administration.
Vaclav Havel has been the sole Czech president to be received in the White House within an official visit.
