Czech President Václav Klaus has sent an open letter to his Ukrainian counterpart, Viktor Janukovych, expressing concern over the objectivity of the trial of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who stands accused of abuse of office in negotiating long-term gas contracts with Russia. Tymoshenko, her supporters and some observers claim the trial is politically motivated and that President Janukovich is set on sidelining his main political rival.
