Prague, Oct 9 (CTK) – The ANO movement won the October 7-8 regional elections in nine out of the 13 Czech regions, the Social Democrats (CSSD) have two and did not defend their victory from 2012 in seven and the Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) won in one, according to statistical data.
All three parties form the current centre-left coalition government.
Apart from the government parties, the local movement Mayors for the Liberec Region movement won in this region.
ANO won in the Central Bohemia, Plzen, Karlovy Vary, Usti, Hradec Kralove, Pardubice, South Moravia, Olomouc and Moravia Silesia regions. It gained 176 mandates.
The CSSD defended their position only in the South Bohemia and Vysocina regions and lost about two-fifth of mandates.
The KDU-CSL won in the Zlin Region.
The Communists (KSCM) suffered a considerable loss, they failed to defend their previous victory in two regions and lost about a half of seats.
The Civic Democrats (ODS) lost a quarter of seats in the regional assemblies.
The KDU-CSL and the conservative TOP 09 kept more or less the same number of mandates.
ANO gained 21.05 percent of the vote, which is so far the lowest share for a victorious party in regional elections. The CSSD won four years ago with 23.58 percent .
In 2004, the ODS won regional elections with 36.35 percent of the vote and in the first regional polls in 2000, it had 23.8 percent of the votes.
