Prague, Jan 12 (CTK) – The Czech junior government Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) in their resolution demand that an extraordinary summit of the European Council (EC) be convoked to deal with measures against the unprecedented rise in sexual violence, KDU-CSL spokeswoman Petra Hrusova told CTK yesterday.
The summit should also deal with the provision of security in Europe and the EU outer border protection, she added.
“The KDU-CSL considers the rise in sexual violence in some European countries a serious European problem since it concerns all in the open and interconnected Europe, and it can be transferred across the border of the countries afflicted at present,” the KDU-CSl resolution says.
Its leadership has therefore called on the government members for the KDU-CSL to initiate the convoking of an EC extraordinary summit at the next government meeting.
The Christian Democrats call for the summit as -the neighbouring Germany is dealing with the impact of violence against women on New Year’s Eve in Cologne and other towns where groups of male immigrants were sexually attacking women en masse.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Social Democrats, CSSD) asked for an extraordinary EU summit to be convoked last week. On Monday, he sent a letter to EU summit head Donald Tusk and EC President Jean-Claude Juncker as well as representatives of the Dutch EU presidency, asking them for a prompt formation of a European border and coast guard to prevent an uncontrolled migration to Europe.
Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) reiterated in the past days that the Czech Republic was ready to support all steps to speed up the establishment of the European border protection corps, including a possible extraordinary summit.
However, Tusk does not plan to convoke an extraordinary summit. His press service said migration would be on the agenda of the regular February summit of the EU heads of state and government.
