Baku, Sept 15 (CTK special correspondent) – Czech President Milos Zeman can see no connection between subsidies from the European Union and quotas for the redistribution of refugees in the EU, his spokesman Jiri Ovcacek told CTK yesterday.
According to Zeman, currently on a visit to Azerbaijan, the quotas are pointless because all refugees will end up in Germany anyway, Ovcacek said.
“The Czech Republic has never been against the voluntary acceptance of all refugees who would like to stay in the country,” Ovcacek said.
Politicians of all parties represented in the Czech parliament rejected connections between the EU subsidies and refugee quotas yesterday.
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the EU should cut the money paid from the structural funds to countries that reject a compromise on the redistribution of asylum seekers across the EU.
The Czech Republic is one of the few countries that resolutely oppose the mandatory quotas.
