Prague, June 21 (CTK) – The Chamber of Deputies security affairs committee will meet to discuss the troublesome situation in the Czech police, caused by a dispute over its planned reshuffle, on Thursday, the public broadcaster Czech Television (CT) said yesterday.
The meeting was called by the committee’s deputy chairman Bronislav Schwarz (ANO) who said he had done so at the request of the deputies and that he had informed about it its chairman Roman Vana (Social Democrats, CSSD), now abroad.
Schwarz said the meeting would be attended by outgoing police organised crime (UOOZ) head Robert Slachta who has resigned in protest against the restructuring.
There will be also Jiri Komarek, head of the UOOZ department in Ostrava, north Moravia, and state attorney Ivo Istvan.
When calling the meeting Schwarz said he had proceeded exactly in keeping with law.
The security committee can be called by its chairman or deputy chairpersons. Its meeting can also be prompted by the group of at least six members of the committee.
Schwarz said it was necessary to calm down the situation.
The Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL, minor coalition government partner) consider it necessary for the committee to meet, party leader Pavel Belobradek said.
The meeting was demanded by Slachta who wants to inform the committee about an alleged link between the police and the criminal environment.
The police reshuffle was given a go-ahead by Interior Minister Milan Chovanec despite a fierce opposition by the ANO leader, Finance Minister Andrej Babis, who threatened to leave the government over the issue, but eventually changed his mind.
