Prague, April 25 (CTK) – The Czech Bloc Against Islam (BPI) has withdrawn from its deal with the Dawn-National Coalition opposition party in parliament, with which it reached agreement on cooperation in the autumn regional and Senate elections, BPI head Martin Konvicka says on the Internet.
Konvicka wrote that the Dawn behaved unfairly, did not fulfil its commitments and only attempted to make use of the partnership for its own benefit.
Konvicka writes that the cooperation deal was “an entirely erroneous political step” and apologised to his movement’s members for it.
Marek Cernoch, chairman of the Dawn deputy group, told CTK yesterday that the BPI’s withdrawal came as a big surprise to him, that he has learnt about it indirectly and that he will not comment on it for the time being.
The BPI also announced that it is convoking a national conference to Prague for May 28, at which Konvicka will resign and seek re-election.
Under the deal with Dawn, Konvicka was to be the super leader of the two entities in the regional and Senate elections.
Daily Pravo wrote in March that the BPI would have to pay Dawn 60 million crowns if it ended cooperation. The sum is to represent the supposed costs of the election campaign.
The BPI is opposed to the alleged Islamisation of Europe and it criticises the influx of migrants. Dawn puts emphasis on Czech national interests and direct democracy. It now has eight lawmakers in the Chamber of Deputies.
