Lany, Central Bohemia, Aug 30 (CTK) – The biggest success of Milos Zeman in the presidential post is not allowing a continuation of the centre-right government of Petr Necas (Civic Democrats, ODS) that was incapable and hindered the economic development of the country, Zeman told Radio Frekvence 1 yesterday.
Necas resigned as prime minister in mid-2013 after the head of his office was suspected of misusing the secret services and political corruption and it turned out that she also was Necas’s secret lover.
Zeman, 70, has been president since the spring of 2013. He is halfway through his five-year mandate now.
Zeman said he would assess his performance as president only after his mandate expires in 2018.
He said he feels in good health, apart from neuropathy due to which he had insensitive feet and ankles and often stumbled.
“I am considered a notorious drunk due to it,” he said.
Zeman entered top politics in the 1990s. He was known for his habit of drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. However, doctors recently ordered him to limit drinking and smoking because of his diabetes.
When asked whether he would feel healthy enough to run for president again in 2018, Zeman said his health would not be a problem.
