Mlada Boleslav, Central Bohemia, March 15 (CTK) – Ice hockey forward David Vyborny, 41, who won the world championship with the Czech national team five times in the late 1990s and early 2000s, has ended his career of a hockey player, he told Sport.cz server after a medical examination yesterday.
Doctors confirmed yesterday that the ligaments in his knee were torn.
“The ligaments are torn, I can’t do anything for a month… This is the end of the career … It’s the end and that’s that,” Vyborny said.
Vyborny got injured during a playoff game of the top Czech ice hockey league on Monday. He is the captain of the team of Mlada Boleslav, which has been coached by his father, Frantisek Vyborny.
The right-winger David Vyborny started playing the top Czech league with Sparta Praha in 1990. He played the NHL with Columbus for seven seasons (2000-2008) and then returned to Sparta. In 2011, he joined Mlada Boleslav.
Vyborny was a member of Czech national teams that were world champions in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2005. He has a bronze medal from the 2006 Olympic tournament. He was in the All Stars Team of the 2006 World Championship.
