Tabor, South Bohemia, June 19 (CTK) – Czech javelin thrower Barbora Spotakova threw the spear 66.87 metres, which is the women’s best throw this year, at Czech athletic championship today.

Spotakova replaced Latvian Madara Palameika (65.68 metres) at the top of the 2016 list of the longest throws.

In March, Spotakova suffered a tarsal fracture, which threatened her preparation for the Rio Olympics where she will be defending the gold medals from the previous Games in London (2012). She also won the Olympic competition in Beijing (2008).

Due to the injury, Spotakova started the season at the Diamond League event in Rome on June 2 where she threw 59.82 metres. At the Odlozil Memorial athletic meet in Prague on June 6, her best throw was 63.79 metres.

Since 2008, Spotakova has been the world record holder (72.28 metres).
