Prague, Jan 25 (CTK) – Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova, 25, the Wimbledon winner in 2011 and 2014, announced yesterday that she has terminated her cooperation with coach David Kotyza after more than seven years.
She said she has not found a replacement for Kotyza as yet and wants to solve the situation in the course of February.
“I and coach David Kotyza are parting with each other after seven years. I would like to thank him for everything he was doing for me all the time, both on and outside the tennis-court,” Kvitova wrote on Facebook.
“I felt that my career needs a new strong impulse, a change. That is why I agreed at a personal meeting with David on terminating our cooperation,” Kvitova said in a press release sent to CTK.
“Naturally, I have no replacement for David now. I am going to play Fed Cup now and I am looking forward to it very much. Afterwards, I will solve everything in February,” Kvitova said.
Kotyza, 48, told CTK that he respects Kvitova’s decision and wishes every success to her in both personal and sports life.
Kvitova started to cooperate with Kotyza in November 2008. Under his coaching she became one of the world’s top players. She won 17 WTA tournaments, including two Wimbledon ones in 2011 and 2014.
When she began with tennis, she figured at about 40th-50th position in the WTA ranking.
In early 2012, a single victory separated her from the world number one position.
Kvitova’s career includes brilliant successes as well as flops. This year, her start was rather unfortunate. She withdrew from her first match after the first set over digestion troubles. She cancelled her participation in the Sydney tournament, and she dropped out in the 2nd round of the Australian Open tournament in Melbourne.
