PCC 1st XI eased to a seven-wicket victory over Bohemians to ensure that both themselves and Dresden qualify for the 40-over League Final on Saturday 7th June.
Three early wickets from Rohit left Bohemians reeling on 53-4 after 13 overs, but a 75-run fifth-wicket partnership between Manjeet (39) and Susanta (33), and a patient 43-run ninth-wicket partnership between Javed (28*) and Saša (4), ensured that a respectable target of 183 was posted.
But opener Sudhir (67*) batted sensibly to take his team home, sharing 104 with captain Paul (64) to ensure that PCC remained unbeaten and set up a chance to gain revenge on Dresden for defeat in the 2013 league final.
The PCC 2nd XI visited Dresden on Saturday, and they impressed in bowling the hosts out for 99, their lowest total of the season. Pace bowlers Malang (4-32) and Sagar (3-20) bowled through their spells in reducing Dresden from 57-2 to 72-9.
Unfortunately the rain came with the game well poised, Dresden having come back into it with a fiery opening spell from Uddi (2-14). PCC 2nd XI were 33-5 when the rain became too heavy in the 16th over, and it became a fully fledged thunderstorm soon afterwards to render any chance of resumption impossible.
Vinohrady won the Saturday game in Prague, surviving an early-order wobble to ease home by four wickets thanks to an unbeaten 28 from Chris. Arshad took four wickets and conceded just four runs in his eight overs, with plenty of assistance from his teammates as Barbarians were bowled out for 85.
Next weekend is the last weekend of group fixtures, with Dresden and Bohemians already finished having moved their fixture forward. Vinohrady take on PCC 1st XI on Saturday, with PCC 2nd and Barbarians eager for the rain to hold off on Sunday so that both can aim to record their first victory of the campaign and avoid the wooden spoon!
