Prague, July 10 (CTK) – More than one in five Czechs get retired prematurely in the Czech Republic and 498,500 were receiving a lower premature pension in March, according to the latest data of the Czech Social Security Administration (CSSZ).
The law on premature pension has taken effect in 1994.
The average monthly pension is 11,300 crowns, while the average premature monthly pension is 10,100 crowns.
The Czech retirement age is 63 years for men and 62 years for childless women, while mothers get retired sooner, based on the number of children they raised. People may get retired up to three years earlier if they want.
Every year, the retirement age for men is extended by two months for men and four months for women.
In March 2015, 228,400 men and 270,100 women received from the state a premature pension of 11,227 crowns and 9124 crowns a month, respectively.
A pension is lowered by every three months that remain to reach the retirement age. If people retire one year before their retirement age, their pension will be permanently lowered by 3.6 percent, and if they use the opportunity to retire the maximum of three years before reaching the retirement age, their pension will be about 16 percent lower.
A SC&C agency’s poll conducted for the Alternativa 50+ group showed that people mostly go into retirement because they lost their job. Two out of five people retired because they were dismissed and one out of six retired because of their bad health.
