Prague, July 22 (CTK) – The police have recovered the oil painting called Bathing by Czech painter Jan Preisler (1872-1918) whose value is put at around eight million crowns and that was stolen from an exhibition in Chrudim, east Bohemia, 19 years ago, according to police information yesterday.
The police deposited the painting with the National Gallery yesterday.
Preisler was one of the pioneers of Czech modern painting.
The highest price fetched by Preisler’s work was 8.87 million crowns including the auction surcharge last year. The sum was paid for his Spring triptych.
