Prague, Aug 6 (CTK) – Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Social Democrats, CSSD) will demand additionally more than one billion crowns for the 2016 budget of his sector to solve the refugee crisis, Nova commercial TV reported yesterday.
Finance Minister Andrej Babis (ANO) wants to discuss the demand, Nova added.
The centre-left government of the CSSD, ANO and Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) will debate the budget bill on August 20.
The annual operation of refugee camps in the Czech Republic will cost 159 million crowns, Nova said.
In the Czech Republic, there are detention facilities for refugees in Bela pod Bezdezem, central Bohemia, and Zastavka, south Moravia, that do not suffice. This is the capacity of the complex in Bela was increased to 700 beds, while the Zastavka facility offers 196 beds and the reopened camp in Vysni Lhoty, north Moravia, another 220 beds.
Moreover, the former prison in Drahonovice, north Bohemia, is to be turned into a refugee facility.
Nova has reported that the Bela facility will cost an additional 30 million, while those in Vysni Lhoty and Drahonovice almost 28 million and 15 million crowns will be spent on a new facility in Balkova, west Bohemia.
In addition, some 30 million will be needed for the wages of the facilities’ staff and 25 million for investments.
The police participate in the solution to problems with refugees and the Interior Ministry also wants to cooperate with the military, too.
The total costs will amount to 1.2 billion crowns next year.
“This is a problems of the European Union that should in a way halt the uncontrolled influx of refugees immediately,” Babis told Nova.
He said he would not mind more money for the border protection, but that he would not like the funding of refugee camps.
