Prague, Aug 29 (CTK) – The Prague City authorities plan to send warning SMS messages in case of an emergency situation to all inhabitants of the city who are affected by the accident or disaster, Prague Mayor Adriana Krnacova said during the Day of the Integrated Rescue System Saturday.
At present, the warning messages are sent only to the inhabitants who applied for their receiving.
In practice, only a small number of people receive the warning and the present system has little influence, Prague’s 7th district mayor Jan Cizinsky said.
The firm operating the Prague water main and sewage system has introduced a similar system and when drinking water got contaminated in the 6th district in May, only dozens of people received the warning, Cizinsky said.
He added that the mass sending of the SMS messages would have relatively low costs.
Lawmaker Bohuslav Chalupa said the possible sending of mass SMS warning would be discussed by the lower house defence committee soon.
