Prague, Oct 12 (CTK) – The Czech Prison Service will help guard migrants in detention facilities as from November 1 at the request of the Interior Ministry, for which Justice Minister Robert Pelikan (for ANO) has released up to 70 people, he told journalists yesterday.
He said the Prison Service employees will be deployed within overtime hours allowed by law.
“Yesterday, the government approved a decree allowing the deployment of Prison Service employees,” Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) said after a government meeting.
He said in reaction to the current migrant crisis, it is necessary to reinforce the capacities in the detention facilities that were abolished in the past.
Pelikan said the details are yet to be fine-tuned. The Prison Service employees will probably help in Drahonice, north Bohemia, where 80 male foreigners from Bela pod Bezdezem, central Bohemia, were relocated yesterday.
The facility in Drahonice is a former prison.
Miloslav Koudelny, director of the Refugee Facilities Administration, said Drahonice has been opened so that the migrants can be in walled buildings. The capacity of 240 beds will be filled at about a half at the beginning.
