Prague, April 27 (CTK) – The Czech senior government Social Democratic Party (CSSD) has sent 2.4 million crowns to the creditors of lawyer Zdenek Altner, whom it must pay almost 338 million for his legal services according to a valid court verdict, the party said in a press release yesterday.
Altner filed a distraint petition against the CSSD on Friday.
The CSSD is not willing to pay him yet. It has chosen the strategy to cover his debts that are claimed in distraint proceedings first.
Experts are of the view that the CSSD acts at variance with the valid verdict by its refusal to pay Altner.
The Prague Municipal Court recently ruled that the Social Democrats must pay 18.5 million to Altner for his services in the dispute about the party’s former seat plus a contractual fine of 318 million for a 5734-day delay.
A week ago, the CSSD paid 95,000 crowns to two of his creditors. Yesterday, it will send over 2.26 million crowns to the tax office in Litomerice, north Bohemia, and 132,000 crowns to the General Health Insurance Company (VZP), Jiri Chvojka, media representative of the law office representing the CSSD, said.
The CSSD filed a petition for an appellate review with the Supreme Court (NS) and asked for an adjournment of the enforcement of the verdict of the Prague Municipal Court. The NS asked for the files on the case last week.
Altner helped the CSSD successfully defend its ownership of its Lidovy dum headquarters in Prague centre in the late 1990s. The contract from 1997 granted him a contractual reward worth 10 percent of the lucrative real estate’s value if he succeeded in pushing through the party’s claim to it.
