Prague, May 9 (CTK) – Czech pop singer Karel Gott underwent a planned abdominal surgery which is to complete his oncological treatment yesterday, and he has messaged his fans that he feels well, Gott’s spokeswoman Aneta Stolzova told CTK.
Doctors have treated Gott, 76, since last November when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Gott then started targeted oncological treatment. He underwent the last chemotherapy session in late February. In March, a medical check-up showed that the malignant tumorous disease disappeared.
In late April, Gott told German tabloid daily Bild that his convalescence was slower than he expected.
He said he would not be able to sing for some time due to breathing problems.
As a Schlager music singer, Gott has been at the top of the Czech pop charts for half a century and he also has a number of fans abroad, mainly in Germany. In 2009, he received a state decoration for contribution to Czech culture.
