Prague, June 7 (CTK) – The Czech Interior Ministry will get the right to order temporary border checks if there is an acute threat on the border under the border protection law signed by President Milos Zeman yesterday.
The checks would take the maximum five days and their prolongation would have to be approved by the government.
If no emergency situation occurs, it will be up to the government to decide on the closure of the border as now.
The government will be able to cancel the decision to close the border made by the Interior Ministry.
Under the legislation, the Interior Ministry is to be allowed to order the border controls if there is a serious threat of violation of order or to home security.
The checks are to be possible in selected places or alongside the whole border.
The law also sets down that the government may determine the extent, way and intensity of the checks.
These may be random road and rail checks or systematic checks as it was before the introduction of the Schengen system.
It will be also possible to impose a ban on crossing the green border. The government is to be able to say where the border can be crossed, at least at the former border crossings.
The legislation also sets down the conditions for the gaining of the international airport status and the duties of plane captains and airport operators.
The international airports in the country that handle at least 5,000 people a year will have to separate passengers on domestic and foreign flights.
By September 2018, the airports with over one million passengers annually will have to have a special room for the foreigners to whom entry to the Czech Republic will be denied.
