Bratislava, Aug 15 (CTK) – A Czech spelaeologist died in a cave-in in Central Slovakia over the weekend, the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service told CTK yesterday.
The man lost consciousness and succumbed to serious injuries in a cave.
His co-workers tried to save him, they managed to break through the cave-in and resuscitate the man, but in vain. His injuries were fatal, the Mountain Rescue Service said.
Some 20 rescuers assisted on the spot.
The accident occurred in the Cave of Lost Ring near Moce village, some 25km of Banska Bystrica, which was uncovered in June, the Slovak Spelaeological Society says.
Accidents in Slovak caves are rather rare.
In 2009, the body of a Czech man was found in a cave in east Slovakia. According to media, he faced charges of plotting the murder of his superior.
