Prague, Sept 10 (CTK) – Czech glassmakers will present the creation of glass artifacts in a mobile furnace and by blowing at the London Design Festival in September, Petra Jungwirthova, spokeswoman for Czech Centres, one of the co-organisers, has told CTK.
The Czech presentation entitled Breathless, prepared by the Dechem studio and designers from Okolo group, will be opened on September 17-25.
The design festival is one of the major events of the autumn culture season in London, offering dozens of exhibitions, shows and installations all over the city, Jungwirthova said.
The Breathless project connects the work of the Dechem glass studio, which won the Czech Grand Design national award last year, with the Okolo studio’s interest in unconventional presentation of design and craft.
Professional Czech glassmakers Marek Bartko and Marek Effmert will lead workshops for visitors and in cooperation with renowned foreign designers, also arts and crafts workshops.
“Glass is presented in its all forms and stages of its creation,” said Adam Stech, from Okolo, who is the curator of the exhibition, said.
The Glass Museum will show some 30 artifacts and glass items, including works by renowned glass artists Rene and Miluse Roubicek, Rony Plesl, Martin Zampach, Nastassia Aleinikava, Jakub Berdych and Frantisek Vizner as well as customs jewellery from Jablonec, north Bohemia.
The Breathless project will also include two lectures on glass, its production, history and design in cooperation with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, large-scale photographs by Bet Orten from glass plants in north Bohemia and a “chill-out zone” where visitors can taste eight-degree beer that glassmakers drink during their everyday work, Jungwirthova said
