Uherske Hradiste, South Moravia, July 30 (CTK) – A total of 5,700 registered viewers from the Czech Republic and abroad visited the 42nd Summer Film School (LFS) in Uherske Hradiste this year, which was 200 more than last year, its programme director Iva Hejlickova told CTK Saturday when the festival ended.
The LFS, held on July 22-30, presented 230 films from all over the world that were screened in six halls and two open-air cinemas.
The programme was divided into six basic sections: the Philippine film, the U.S. independent film, a retrospective of Italian film-maker Luchino Visconti, the British Ealing Studios – the oldest continuously working studio facility, silent science-fiction films, the filmography of U.S. director Roger Corman, a master of low-budget B-movies, and the Polish film school.
American director Julie Taymor, 63, Czech-born film-maker Ivan Passer, 83, representative of the Czechoslovak New Film Wave of the 1960s who left for the United States in 1969, and Slovak actress Emilia Vasaryova, 74, were the major guests to the LFS this year.
They received the annual awards of the festival’s organisers, the Association of Czech Film Clubs (ACFK). Taymor was awarded for her achievements in plastic arts, stage design, theatre, musical and film.
Czech Zdenek Fiala was presented with a prize for his long-time work in the Slavicin Film Club, south Moravia.
Apart from film screenings, the festival offered 12 theatre performances, 11 concerts and several exhibitions.
