Karlovy Vary, West Bohemia, July 11 (CTK) – Bob and Trees, a film by U.S. director Diego Ongaro, was awarded the Grand Prix or the Crystal Globe along with 25,000 dollars at the Czech 50th International Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Saturday.
The Best Actress Award and Best Actor Award were given to Czech actors Alena Mihulova and Krystof Hadek for their roles in the films Home Care and The Snake Brothers.
The competition of documentaries over 60 minutes was won by Czech director Helena Trestikova for her film Mallory.
Czech actress Iva Janzurova received Festival President’s Award for her exceptional contribution to the Czech cinematography.
Youth by Italian film director Paolo Sorrentino won the Audience Award. It was accepted by U.S. actor Harvey Keitel, a former Crystal Globe holder, who created one of the lead roles.
The 50th International Karlovy Vary International Film Festival attracted 12,800 participants. It was held on July 3-11, offering over 200 films from 60 countries.
Over 132,000 tickets were sold.
The Special Jury Award, which is sponsored by 15,000 dollars, was given to Austrian film director Peter Brunner for his film Those Who Fall Have Wings.
Kosovar director Visar Morina was decorated with the Best Director Award for his debut Babai.
Special Awards were also given to Ferdinando Cito Filomarino for the Italian-Greek film Antonia and to Anca Damiano for The Magic Mountain, a co-production of Romania, France and Poland.
The East of the West competition was won by Hungarian director Lili Horvath’s Wednesday Child. Along with the award, she received 20,000 dollars.
In the competition of the documentaries, the award along with 5,000 dollars were given to Roberto Collio from Chile for his White Death, a film from the category Best documentary film under 30 minutes.
Special Mention awards were given to Austrian director Albert Meisl for his documentary Father and to Israeli director Iris Zaki for her British-Israeli Women in Sink shot.
U.S. film director Sean Baker was awarded with the award of the Forum of the Independents for his comedy Tangerine shot with iPhone 5.
