New York, Sept 21 (CTK) – Czech President Milos Zeman visited the Bohemian Hall in New York, centre of the Czech and Slovak community with the biggest garden beer in the town, yesterday.
Zeman met teachers from the local Czech school, representatives of the Czech American associations and Czech businesspeople working in the USA.
Zeman came to the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He is going to deliver a speech on the fight against terrorism this night.
The Bohemian Hall was built by the Czech community in support of Czech and Slovak immigrants in Queens in the late 19th century.
There is still a school there, attended by 140 children between five and 15.
Along with the instruction of Czech and Slovak, they prepare dance and music performances.
The school is financed from the proceeds of the outdoor restaurant in which Czech beer is offered.
After the speech in the U.N., Zeman will also visit the Czech national building. In it, he will receive a bust of first Czechoslovak President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk.
