Prague, Jan 1 (CTK) – Prague entered the year 2016 Friday as the European Capital of Sport during which it will see a total of 400 events, including the annual Prague Marathon as well as some smaller ones organised by sport clubs and city districts.
Since Prague already fulfils the criterion that 60 percent of its inhabitants go in for sport by end-2016, it has set the alternative goal for every Praguer losing at least one kilogram during the year.
The city enters the year amid a Week of Sport for Free during which the capital´s inhabitants can use some sport facilities for free.
Prague´s budget for 2016 has been raised by 100 million crowns from this year´s 400 million in connection with the project.
The European Capitals of Sport Association (ACES) commission that grants the title European Capital of Sport was interested in the way of financing sport, how many sports grounds and active athletes there are in Prague or how the city promotes the sport activities of youth, seniors and the handicapped.
ACES representatives will visit Prague more than 30 times during this year.
