Prage, April 28 (CTK) – The Czech government should initiate on the European level negotiations about the expulsion of the countries that are incapable of protecting the EU outer border from the Schengen system, Petr Fiala, chairamn of the rightist opposition Civic Democrats (ODS), said yesterday.
It should also be ready for the temporary closure of the Czech border and reject the liberalisation of visa-free relations with Turkey, he said.
Fiala presented the ODS’s update plan for tackling the migrant crisis.
He said the Czech Republic should be more active, which requires certain steps to be taken by the government.
The first step is the above mentioned expulsion of some countries from the Schengen system, Fiala said.
Greece has long been mentioned in this connection because it was unable to cope with migration for a long time. Since the EU-Turkey agreement took effect, the number of refugees coming to the EU has markedly decreased. As a result, Greece’s expulsion from Schengen is very improbable.
The ODS also proposes that bilateral negotiations with countries in North Africa on the establishment of hotspots on their territory and an information and preventative campaign in the countries of origin of the migrants be launched. True information on the risks and punishment of the illegal crossing of the EU border would be provided within the campaign.
The ODS pushes for the conclusion of agreements on migrant readmission with the countries to which the Czech Republic sends international development aid and a change to the Geneva convention on refugees which no longer reacts to the current “migration of the nations.”
