Plzen, West Bohemia, Sept 2 (CTK) – The West Bohemian University in Plzen will offer free Czech language courses to migrants who decide to stay in the country and are granted asylum, its rector Miroslav Holecek told CTK yesterday.
The course lasts one semester or one year and it includes basic information on life in the Czech Republic and Czech history.
Holecek said the courses would be a good opportunity for the refugees who were interested in staying and local people to get to know each other and for the softening of the cultural differences and barriers.
He said the immigrants must do something for their integration and for understanding the new situation. This would also help improve the atmosphere in Czech society, he added.
Four faculties of Prague’s Charles University have recently offered free studies of what are otherwise regular paid study programmes taught in English to foreign immigrants with Czech asylum and a residence permit.
Holecek said the West Bohemian University may offer further free study to foreigners who pass the course.
