Bohumin, North Moravia, Jan 2 (CTK) – The town hall has successfully tested the baby taxi service that drives Czech mothers with children under six to doctors, town hall spokeswoman Lucie Kolkova told journalists Saturday.
With the service, the town has followed up a similar, successful project for the elderly.
The subsidised taxi for the children started to be used in the town at the beginning of last March. In the past ten months, the baby taxi had almost 400 drives, Kolkova said.
One drive is sponsored by the town hall with 15 crowns. So far, it has paid the extra 20,000 crowns, she added.
“The baby taxi has been serving for ten months. It has proved well. We are continually checking the list of the places to which we drive both mothers with children and the elderly within the senior taxi. We assess the situation and make some minor changes,” Mayor Petr Vicha (Social Democrats, CSSD) said.
The baby taxi drives to the surgeries of doctors and also to hospitals. On working days, it operates depending on the doctors’ working time, between 6.30 and 14.00.
The service can be used by any adult person with permanent stay in Bohumin and a child under six.
“We have three cars at our disposal. One is big, for up to eight people,” operator of the service Jiri Malucha has said.
The project was recently awarded in a national competition of interesting and positive projects on the level of local self-rule.
“In the category Children and Families, the Bohumin baby taxi won. For this, it received 20,000 crowns,” Kolkova said.
She said the money would be spent on further financing of the service.
