Prague, Aug 6 (CTK) – A nine-member gang planned to burgle a villa of Czech Finance Minister and Deputy PM Andrej Babis (ANO) and kidnap his child, the Respekt.cz server reported yesterday, referring to information from security forces.
The gang members were arrested at the turn of 2014.
Babis’s residence is one of the houses of rich people in Prague that the gang selected as potential targets.
Respekt.cz writes that the case has no political background.
Most of the gang members came from Albania and they received tips for the houses to burgle from a Czech accomplice.
The server writes that the Czech police organised crime squad (UOOZ) was monitoring the gang for several months on the basis of report that a villa of a Prague businessman was to be burgled.
During subsequent spying on and wiretapping of the suspects, detectives found out that the gangsters had prepared two other crimes. They wanted to break into another businessman’s villa in Prague and into Babis’s house.
The criminals were allegedly discouraged from the burglary by the extensive security protection of Babis and his family. Despite that, the gang members were checking the possibility to kidnap his child.
“The gang was allegedly sure that it cannot be revealed since a detective from Prague collaborated with it. He was to warn them if the police started to look into the gang members. Both the detective and the gang members have been taken into custody,” Respekt.cz reported.
Both UOOZ chief Robert Slachta and his superior, Deputy Police President Zdenek Laube, refused to comment on the information.
According to the server, the investigation into the case is almost completed and an indictment is to be filed soon.
