Hradec Kralove, East Bohemia, Jan 7 (CTK) – The recent hacker attack on the private e-mail of Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka was made very sophisticatedly and it will be difficult to uncover the perpetrator, Interior Minister Milan Chovanec told a press conference yesterday.
Chovanec said Sobotka (both Social Democrats, CSSD) should not be prone to being blackmailed as a result of the incident.
The case has been investigated by the police organised crime squad (UOOZ) that also deals with cyber crime.
Chovanec said every politician has the right to have a private e-mail.
“Among the published messages [from Sobotka´s e-mail], I´ve found none showing that the prime minister committed anything [unlawful],” Chovanec said.
The hacker attack “simply means infringement upon a man´s privacy, which I condemn,” Chovanec said.
Regarding crucial issues, the prime minister communicated on protected networks, he emphasised.
Chovanec said that the first attack on Sobotka´s Internet communication was waged on Twitter on December 23.
“I suppose that the police made all information available [on the e-mail] safe immediately on December 23. That is why I suppose that the content of the e-mail box is known to the police and that the prime minister cannot be potentially blackmailed by someone who would have information against him, as no such information exists,” Chovanec said.
Dozens of working as well as private messages from Sobotka´s e-mail have been released by the extremist web White Media.
White Media´s Internet site is based in the USA, which, experts say, may aim at thwarting the detection of its operators.
The Czech neovlivni.cz server wrote on Wednesday that one of the main versions checked by the police is that the hacker attack was made to someone´s order.
