The Czech Republic faces a nationwide 24-hour transport strike today after a last ditch attempt by Prime Minister Petr Nečas (ODS) to convince unions to cancel the action failed. He had called the country’s biggest union groups and employers to a special session of their regular meetings with the government yesteday but made no breakthrough. “This strike will bring nothing good. It will tension and damages that will add up to a billion crowns,” Nečas said.
