Prague, Sept 14 (CTK) – Ivana Zemanova, Czech President Milos Zeman’s wife, is behind the shooting contest Safety in Women’s Hands held with the exclusive participation of women at the training ground for tanks in Milovice, central Bohemia, on Monday, daily Pravo writes yesterday.
The contest was attended by some senior politicians, such as Alexandra Udzenija, deputy chairwoman of the opposition Civic Democratic Party (ODS), and Jana Cernochova, a Chamber of Deputies member for the ODS, Pravo writes.
They finished third in the team contest, it adds. The first place went to professional female soldiers both in the individual and team contests, it adds.
Some time ago, Zeman said his wife had passed the test for a gun licence and bought a gun, Pravo writes.
“Zemanova’s long-standing goal is to support women in the Czech military. As a result, one can expect similar events to take place,” Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek has told the paper.
“She has a revolver,” Zeman has said. “I hope she will protect me against terrorists. However, primarily my bodyguards will do it,” he added.
In August, Zeman called on Czechs to arm themselves and to use the arms if need be.
