Prague, July 15 (CTK) – The Czech Interior Ministry expects populist Islamophobic and anti-immigration organisations to step up their activities and “mainstream far-right extremists” to take up the topic, it said in its latest report on the development of extremism it has released online.
The extreme rightist scene is stagnating, being considerably fragmented, the report said.
This may be due to the competition in the form of populist groupings that protest against immigration and the Muslim community, it added.
Islamophobic associations have distanced themselves from the extreme right, but their “radical political demands, proposals and the way in which they mobilise their sympathisers were almost the same as those of the extreme right,” the report said.
“There is an obvious effort to form coalitions and partnership between the individual groupings with the anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim focus,” it added.
The “Bloc Against Islam” has arisen from the midst of the people supporting the campaign “We Do Not Want Islam in the Czech Republic” and it has also communicated with the Dawn party, the extra-parliamentary National Democracy (ND) and the Chamber of Deputies member Tomio Okamura, the report said.
A previous anti-immigration rally was held on July 1, attended by a crowd of about 700. The demonstrators warned of the “hordes of horny blacks” and put up fake gallows for “traitors.”
The NS will organise a rally called “second popular camp” in Prague’s centre on Saturday.
With regard to the extreme left, Islamophobes incite it to stage its own rallies against them, the report said.
A part of the extreme left has also reacted to the April detention of a group that supports the Revolutionary Cells Network (SRN) that, according to the police, planned an attack on a freight train with military materiel.
The report said the extreme left wanted to dispute the criminal proceedings against the SRN, arguing that this was a groundless reprisal against anarchists.
The SRN informs on its actions online. It has claimed the burning of a police car in Prague on May 15.
“After a police action, another six arson attacks have occurred. They were claimed by various SRN cells. Most of them targeted the police property,” the report said.
