The Czech Republic’s biggest grouping of trade unions called a nationwide protest against the center-right government’s plans for public sector spending cuts, job cuts, and proposals to freeze or curb pension rises. The Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trades Unions (ČMKOS) called for the protests on 21 April, a Saturday, to reflect what it described as the widespread public disillusionment with the government, saying that it would contact civic groups over the next days to maximize the protest.
