Prague, Dec 19 (CTK) – The Czech police will get new uniforms from 2016 until the end of 2019, Police Presidium spokeswoman Ivana Nguyenova has told CTK, adding that the project for some 40,000 men and women will cost about 130 million crowns.
The current outfit of the police is often the target of criticism.
Some parts of it will no longer be used. This applies to women´s hats, for instance..
The uniforms, in which dark blue to black predominates, will get a red border and they will be tailor-made.
Ranks will also have a new look. The eight-point silver stars on the officer ranks will be replaced with five-point golden stars.
Lower ranks will have three-point silver stars.
Inspiration for some parts of the new outfit was sought in Austria, Germany and the Netherlands.
The uniforms should resemble clothing from the period of the First Republic (1918-38).
The police uniforms underwent the biggest changes in the years following the fall of the communist regime in 1989.
The current outfit replaced the green uniforms worn by members of the communist National Security Corps (SNB).
