The crime thriller Kajínek – based on the true story of a convicted murderer who maintains his innocence – is breaking every Czech box-office record. The film had the biggest opening weekend ever for a Czech film and hasn’t seen its popularity die off in the weeks since. More than 119,000 people went to see Kajínek on the weekend of its release 5 August, which was some 20,000 more than Shrek Forever After, the week’s second leading film, according to the Film Distributor’s Union.
