Prague, July 21 (CTK) – A 33-year-old woman killed another woman, aged 54, following their conflict in a shopping centre in Prague yesterday, municipal police spokeswoman Iveta Martinkova told CTK, adding that the police detained the attacker at the scene of the crime.
The victim succumbed to stab wounds, Martinkova said.
The conflict occurred in the Novy Smichov shopping centre. According to witnesses, the victim was killed on the Tesco store premises.
A part of the store was closed, with the police and an ambulance on the spot.
The Prague rescue service’s spokesman Matej Hribal told CTK that they arrived in the store a mere four minutes after the attack was reported. Unfortunately, they could not help the victim any more, he said.
Martinkova said the police would not provide more information for now.
Server Novinky.cz has written that the assailant was released from a psychiatric clinic shortly before the attack.
Interior Minister Milan Chovanec expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and assured the public that terrorism was not the motive behind the crime.
