Prague, March 30 (CTK) – The Czech police managed well security measures during the ending three-day visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Czech Republic, the government agreed yesterday, Defence Ministetr Martin Stropnicky (ANO) has said.
Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Belobradek (Christian Democrats, KDU-CSL) said the incidents over which Culture Minister Daniel Herman (KDU-CSL) turned to Interior Minister Milan Chovanec (Social Democrats, CSSD) will be investigated.
They will be also checked by the General Inspection of Security Corps (GIBS), he added.
“Naturally, there can always be some dubious moments, but on the whole and given the certain potential risk involved, it ended well,” Stropnicky said.
He said the military only played a complementary role.
The incidents, of which Herman, who has expressed criticism of Czech-Chinese cooperation on Twitter several times these days, mainly with regard to human rights abuses in China, involved supporters of Xi Jinping among others.
Strict measures were applied during Xi Jinping’s visit. It was accompanied by unusual conduct of some demonstrators who attacked people protesting against China’s human rights policy.
According to the media, the Chinese who welcomed Xi Jinping in Prague had received instructions from the Chinese embassy.
Some were invited to the embassy on Friday to get advice on how to approach the opponents of the visit and human rights defendants with Tibetan flags. They received meals and T-shirts for joining the welcoming events, the media wrote, citing an employee of the Chinese embassy.
The welcomers of Xi Jinping included a number of students. According to CTK’s source, the embassy registers all Chinese students in the Czech Republic. If it summons them, they obey the order as their further studies in the Czech Republic depend on the embassy, the source said.
Some Czech participants in the protests against the violation of human rights by China complained about the police, who, they said, tended to intervene against them rather than the more aggressive Chinese, who supported Xi.
