Prague, Dec 6 (CTK) – Czech Communist (KSCM) MEP Miloslav Ransdorf may have swallowed someone´s bait in Switzerland, where he was detained on suspicion of a financial fraud, since something similar happened to him in the past as well, President Milos Zeman said in a live radio interview yesterday.
However, he added that this was just his private hypothesis and that he would wait for the investigation results.
The Swiss police arrested Ransdorf, along with three Slovaks, in a Zurich bank on Thursday. They allegedly attempted to transfer a high sum on the basis of false documents.
The sum concerned was 350 million euros, Slovak media reported.
Ransdorf, who denies any wrongdoing, and two of the Slovaks were released later.
“This is a man whom anybody can trick,” Zeman said on Ransdorf in the Presidential Pressklub on Frekvence 1 commercial radio station.
He pointed out the case of forged paintings in which Ransdorf had figured in the past.
Zeman also noted that he recently banned Ransdorf, whom he had not seen for several years, from entering the Presidential Office over his words on the awarding of presidential orders and medals on October 28, national holiday.
Ransdorf said Zeman had not mentioned during the ceremony that the father of the awarded 16-year-old student, killed by a mentally ill woman when defending a girl in a secondary school in Zdar nad Sazavou, south Moravia, was also chairman of the KSCM district committee.
Zeman reiterated that he had also closed his door to U.S. ambassador Andrew Schapiro, who had expressed surprise at his trip to Russia to celebrate Victory in Moscow in May.
