Prague/Shanghai, Nov 22 (CTK special correspondent) – Czech PM Bohuslav Sobotka said yesterday he has asked Interior Minister Milan Chovanec to complete a security audit of the Czech Republic including a check of the legislation that defines the state´s possibilities to fight terrorism.
The planned package should include a proposal to establish a draft scale of danger that would enable to ascertain what kinds of threats the country is faced with and how it should react to them, Sobotka told journalists during his visit to China.
“The Interior Ministry should check the legislation that defines our possibilities of fighting terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens,” Sobotka said.
“A part of the package should be a danger scale so that we can define the potential degree of a threat faced by the Czech Republic…., including adequate measures to be taken with the aim to enhance security and the prevention of possible terrorist attacks in the Czech Republic,” Sobotka said.
He said the danger scale may be completed by the end of the year or in early 2016.
Sobotka said the Czech police and counter-intelligence have been in intensive contact with their counterparts in European countries.
“If we had any concrete information concerning Czech security, we are prepared to act,” he said.
Commenting on the results of a recent poll, according to which the number of Czechs opposed to the acceptance of refugees has been rising, Sobotka said this reaction of people could be expected in view of the recent developments in the world and the terrorist attacks in Paris.
“On the other hand, we cannot turn a blind eye [to the problem] and believe that the surrounding world will cease to exist if we close our eyes, as this would not happen,” Sobotka said.
He said the Czech Republic should combine its regard to the safety of citizens with solidarity and help to the people who need it.
“There are not only economic migrants. There are also people who are fleeing a war, who have lost everything and seek safety in Europe,” Sobotka said.
“I think Europe should show solidarity, but it should do so in an organised way, not by the chaos we have witnessed in the past months. Simultaneously, it has to respect all important security aspects,” Sobotka added.
