One day in 2010 Olomouc bus driver Roman Smetana took a marker pen to at least 30 parliamentary election campaign posters appearing on the buses he drove, adding derisive comments and making graphic “alterations”. Fined and sentenced to community service, he paid up but didn’t perform the tasks, refusing to recognize the authority of the court — presided over by an ex-interior minister’s wife. Sentenced anew — to 100 days in prison — now he’s refusing to go to jail.
