Prague, Dec 20 (CTK) – The first Zen garden for alternative funerals, or a park of remembrance, will start operating in Prague in 2016, Prague cemeteries director Martin Cerveny has told CTK.
A forest of remembrance was started at the cemetery in Prague-Dablice this year.
The survivors can choose and hire a place for placing the ashes of the deceased on an area of some two hectares of forest.
“The interest has exceeded our expectations,” Cerveny said.
“However, some people object to the unkept character of the forest. But minimisation of interferences in nature is the main characteristic feature of an environment-friendly cemetery,” he said.
The Zen garden is to be an alternative for people who mind high grass, blackberry bushes and the wild character of forest, Cerveny said.
The Administration of Prague Cemeteries is a state-subsidised organisation that takes care of 29 cemeteries with about 200,000 graves. Several meadow burial places are also available in Prague.
